Ghost Launches Fediverse Integration, Enhancing Content Sharing Across Platforms
Newsletter platform Ghost has rolled out a new feature enabling fediverse connectivity, allowing bloggers to share their content across various platforms that support the ActivityPub protocol. The integration, initially slated for a 2024 release, is now available in beta for Ghost(Pro) users.
This move allows users on platforms such as Mastodon, Pixelfed, and potentially Meta’s Threads to follow and interact with Ghost writers directly. The integration marks a significant step towards a more interconnected digital publishing landscape.
Ghost’s approach stands in stark contrast to competitors like Substack, which restricts content sharing off-platform. By allowing direct publishing to the fediverse, Ghost offers its users greater freedom and reach for their content.
The new functionality includes an “Inbox” feature, enabling users to receive news articles and blogs from both Ghost and WordPress. Additionally, a social web reader software has been introduced, allowing users to view posts from compatible social media services.
Ghost’s fediverse integration also provides notifications for likes, comments, and shares, and allows for profile customization, enhancing the overall user experience.
However, the integration is not without its limitations. For instance, Meta’s Threads platform currently does not allow direct interaction with Ghost users, highlighting potential challenges in achieving seamless cross-platform connectivity.
Ghost(Pro) users interested in activating the ActivityPub feature can do so through the Ghost Admin panel, under Settings > Labs.
As the digital publishing landscape continues to evolve, Ghost’s fediverse integration represents a significant step towards a more open and interconnected online content ecosystem.
