Fortnite Unveils “Ballistic”: New 5v5 FPS Mode Challenges CS:GO and Valorant

Epic Games Unveils “Ballistic,” a Tactical FPS Mode for Fortnite

Epic Games is set to introduce a groundbreaking new tactical first-person shooter (FPS) mode in Fortnite called “Ballistic.” This addition marks a significant departure from the game’s traditional third-person battle royale format, drawing inspiration from popular titles like Counter-Strike and Valorant.

“Ballistic” will feature a 5v5 competitive structure, emphasizing strategy, teamwork, and individual skill. Players will be divided into two teams, with one tasked with planting the “Rift Point Device” while the other defends. The mode incorporates a gear purchase system between rounds, and teams switch sides after six rounds. Victory is achieved by the first team to win seven rounds.

This move aligns with Epic Games’ history of integrating popular gaming concepts into Fortnite. Previous modes have drawn inspiration from diverse sources such as Rocket League, Rock Band, Minecraft, and Among Us. The company’s strategy appears to be transforming Fortnite into a platform more akin to Roblox, offering a variety of gaming experiences within a single ecosystem.

The introduction of “Ballistic” serves multiple purposes for Epic. It allows for experimentation without altering the core battle royale experience, while also potentially boosting in-game purchases as players’ existing outfits and gear will be usable across all modes.

“Ballistic” is scheduled for early access release on December 11th. Coinciding with this launch, Fortnite creators will gain the ability to publish their own first-person mode experiences. This release comes during a busy period for Fortnite, which includes the introduction of a new Japanese-themed season and the launch of a permanent throwback OG mode.

As Epic Games continues to diversify Fortnite’s offerings, “Ballistic” represents a bold step into the competitive FPS arena, potentially attracting a new demographic of players to the already massively popular game.
