Facebook Announces New Policy for Live Broadcast Recordings
Meta, the parent company of Facebook, has unveiled a significant change to its policy regarding live broadcast recordings. Starting February 19th, Facebook will automatically delete users’ live broadcast recordings after 30 days.
Under the new policy, users who wish to preserve their live videos beyond the 30 days must download them before expiration. Alternatively, users have the option to share their recordings as Reels, though these will be limited to 90-second clips.
Meta states that this change aims to align Facebook’s storage policies with industry standards and enhance live video experiences on the platform.
The impact of this policy extends to previously recorded videos as well. All live videos older than 30 days will be removed from the platform. Facebook will notify users via email and in-app messages before deletion occurs. Users will have a 90-day window to download or transfer their videos after receiving the notice.
To facilitate the transition, Facebook is providing several tools for video download. Users can request a bulk download within a custom date range or transfer videos directly to cloud services like Dropbox or Google Drive. Individual videos can also be saved through the Activity Log or the Videos/Live tab.
For users who need more time to manage their content, Facebook offers a postponement option. By tapping “learn more” in the notification and selecting “postpone,” users can delay the deletion of their videos for up to six months.
The deletion of old recordings will occur in waves over the coming months, giving users ample time to secure their content. This move represents a significant shift in Facebook’s approach to video storage and reflects the evolving landscape of social media content management.
