Eve Systems Launches First Android App for Smart Home Devices
Eve Systems has officially released its first Android app, Eve for Matter, on the Google Play Store. This launch comes over two years after the company initially announced its development, marking a significant expansion of Eve’s smart home ecosystem.
The new app allows Android users to access custom features of Eve’s devices that are not supported by Matter, a capability previously exclusive to iOS users. At launch, the app supports only the Eve Thermo device and is compatible exclusively with Google Home.
Eve Thermo, a Matter-over-Thread smart radiator valve designed for European homes, is the focal point of this initial release. The latest version of Eve Thermo comes with Matter and Thread pre-installed, while older versions can be upgraded to support these technologies.
Eve Systems plans to expand support for other devices and platforms in the future. The company’s decision to focus on Eve Thermo for the initial release is strategic, aiming to cater to Android and Google Home users early in the heating season.
The development of an Android app marks a shift in Eve’s approach, which previously prioritized privacy and avoided cloud-to-cloud connections. The Matter smart home standard, with its local control option, has enabled Eve to expand to other platforms while maintaining its commitment to user privacy.
The Eve app allows users to add the Eve Thermo to Google Home via Matter and share it with other Matter-compatible platforms. It also provides access to additional features, such as managing autonomous on-device schedules, which are not available through basic controls.
Currently, Android users can add other Eve Matter devices to platforms like Amazon Alexa, Google Home, and Samsung SmartThings, but are limited to Matter capabilities until more devices are supported in the Eve app. Apple Home users, meanwhile, retain access to all Eve features through the Eve for Matter & HomeKit iOS app.
While the Android app currently works only with Google Home, future versions are expected to support additional platforms, including Amazon Alexa and Samsung SmartThings. As Eve Systems continues to develop and expand its Android offerings, the app aims to become a comprehensive tool for managing Eve devices across various smart home ecosystems.
