
A number of people in the UK have received a fake Microsoft Office USB drive in the mail. Microsoft has launched an internal investigation into the scheme. The fake USB drives look like a full retail copy of Microsoft Office 2021 on an engraved thumb drive. They tell you that you have a virus and need to call “Microsoft Support” on the phone. They then charge you with fraudulent charges if you try to install a remote access tool. Microsoft’s Office 2021 currently starts at $150 (£119.99) It’s easy to see why the prospect of a free copy is tempting. If something seems too good to be true, it probably is probably a bad idea to actually try and install it. If you think you’re going to install it, you’ll probably be a victim. . . .
