A virtual reality (VR) game that teaches users a breathing technique to help with anxiety, and then tests them by placing them in a panic-inducing situation, is being developed by researchers at the University of Cambridge.
The game, which is being developed with the help of video game company Ninja Theory, is being tested as a means of teaching people how to cope with everyday anxiety.
The VR game begins with a user being placed in a peaceful setting, where they are taught to breathe in for four seconds, hold for seven, and exhale for eight.
Once the user has learned the technique, they are placed in a dungeon, where a monster appears and tries to eat them. The user must use the breathing technique to lower their heart rate and avoid death.
