China’s 2022 Smartphone Shipments Plunge to 10-Year Low, Research Firm Reports

China’s smartphone shipments have seen a dramatic decline in 2022, according to research firm IDC. The sales dropped 13% year-on-year, the largest decrease for the industry in ten years. This is due to consumers being more cautious with their spending habits and not wanting to invest in new devices as much as they used to.

The market has been facing tough times since 2018 when it first started seeing declines but this year marks its lowest point yet. It was further impacted by the pandemic which caused even more disruption than usual and made people less likely to purchase expensive items such as smartphones or tablets.

IDC believes that there are still opportunities for growth within China’s smartphone sector if manufacturers can find ways of appealing directly to customers who may be on tighter budgets right now or looking for better value products over luxury ones – something that Chinese brands like Xiaomi have already done successfully with their range of budget phones recently released onto the market.
