OpenAI Introduces ‘Tasks’ Feature for ChatGPT, Expanding AI Assistant Capabilities
OpenAI has unveiled a new beta feature called ‘Tasks’ for its popular ChatGPT platform, marking a significant expansion of the AI’s capabilities. This new functionality, available to Plus, Team, and Pro subscribers, allows users to schedule future actions and reminders, positioning ChatGPT closer to traditional digital assistants like Google Assistant or Siri.
The Tasks feature enables users to instruct ChatGPT on specific actions to perform at designated times. Examples include scheduling daily weather reports, passport expiration reminders, or even bedtime jokes. To utilize Tasks, subscribers can select “4o with scheduled tasks” in the model picker and specify the details of their desired task.
Task management is facilitated through chat threads or a new Tasks section in the profile menu on the web interface. Users receive notifications upon task completion across web, desktop, and mobile platforms, with a current limit of 10 active tasks at any given time.
While OpenAI has not announced whether Tasks will be available to free users, the feature’s inclusion in premium tiers suggests it may remain exclusive to paying subscribers. ChatGPT currently offers monthly subscription options at $20 and $200.
This development represents a shift in ChatGPT’s functionality, moving beyond real-time responses to handle ongoing tasks and future planning. OpenAI aims to expand ChatGPT’s role into areas traditionally occupied by virtual assistants, potentially revolutionizing how users interact with AI technology.
