Canon Unveils EOS R50 V: Enhanced Video Capabilities in a Compact Package
Canon has announced the launch of the EOS R50 V, an updated version of its entry-level mirrorless camera, the EOS R50. The new model boasts improved video features, a more compact design, and a lower price point, partly due to the removal of the electronic viewfinder.
The EOS R50 V builds upon its predecessor, which was introduced in 2023 with 4K video capabilities at 30fps. The latest iteration enhances video performance to 4K at 60fps, incorporating features from Canon’s PowerShot V1.
Set to hit the market in April, the EOS R50 V will be available for $649.99 for the camera body alone. A bundle option, priced at $849.99, includes the new RF-S14-30mm F4-6.3 lens, featuring optical image stabilization and powered zoom.
While retaining the 24.2-megapixel APS-C CMOS sensor from the original EOS R50, the new model utilizes Canon’s Dual Pixel AF II system with focus breathing compensation. It also introduces new video modes for slow or fast shutters and electronic stabilization for smoother footage.
The EOS R50 V’s redesigned body lacks a built-in flash and electronic viewfinder, relying instead on an external screen or its three-inch articulated touchscreen for framing. The camera features a redesigned grip and an additional tripod screw mount, allowing for easier use in both vertical and landscape orientations. A second video record button on the front adds to its user-friendly design.
Catering to content creators, the EOS R50 V supports four different livestreaming modes accessible via a dedicated button. It is compatible with HDMI and Canon’s Camera Connect and Switcher Mobile apps, enhancing its connectivity options.
Canon positions the EOS R50 V as an ideal solution for video content creators looking to upgrade from the PowerShot V1, offering the added benefit of interchangeable lenses.
In related news, Canon has also announced the global availability of the PowerShot V1, which was initially launched in select countries. The PowerShot V1 will be available in the US market at a price of $899.99.
