Bumble Enhances User Safety with New Verification and Date-Sharing Features
Dating app Bumble has announced a series of new features aimed at improving user safety and enhancing the overall dating experience. The company is introducing optional ID verification, a date-sharing feature, and community behavior alerts.
The optional ID verification process requires users to upload a government-issued ID and a selfie. Upon successful verification, users receive a badge on their profile. This feature is currently available in 11 markets, including the United States and the United Kingdom, with plans for further expansion. Users can now filter for verified profiles and request matches to complete the verification process.
In addition to ID verification, Bumble is launching a new date-sharing feature. This allows users to share data details with trusted contacts directly through the app. Users can update their date information within Bumble if plans change, streamlining a process that 67% of US users already engage in.
Bumble is also implementing community behavior alerts for chat messages that may not meet the app’s guidelines. These alerts, which already exist for the Compliments feature, will now extend to regular chats. Users will have the option to edit messages flagged by the app.
These new features align Bumble more closely with competitor Tinder, which introduced ID verification in Japan in 2019 and expanded it globally last year.
The announcement comes amid leadership changes at Bumble, with founder Whitney Wolfe Herd returning as CEO. The company has recently seen the departure of its chief financial and marketing officers, with its business and technology officers set to leave in the coming months.
As dating apps continue to evolve, these new features represent Bumble’s ongoing commitment to user safety and improved dating experiences in the digital age.
