Bluesky Rolls Out Extended Video Support and Enhanced Messaging Controls
Bluesky, the decentralized social media platform, has announced a significant update to its service with version 1.99. The latest release introduces several new features aimed at improving user experience and content-sharing capabilities.
One of the key highlights of this update is the extension of video upload limits. Previously restricted to one minute, users can now share videos up to three minutes in length. This change is expected to boost user engagement and provide more flexibility for content creators on the platform.
In addition to the video enhancements, Bluesky has implemented new controls for direct messaging. A notable addition is the “Chat Requests” feature, which allows users to approve or reject messages from unfamiliar senders. This functionality, similar to the Message Requests feature on X (formerly Twitter), aims to reduce unwanted communications and enhance user privacy.
The new DM filter will display notifications as a banner at the top of the user’s inbox. To assist in decision-making, users will be able to see if the sender is followed by any mutual connections, providing additional context for incoming message requests.
Bluesky has also simplified the process of muting accounts. Users can now mute directly from the three-dot menu on a post, eliminating the need to navigate to the user’s profile to perform this action. This streamlined approach is designed to give users more immediate control over their feed content.
These updates collectively aim to create a safer and more controlled environment for interactions on the platform. By reducing DM spam and refining the user interface, Bluesky continues its efforts to improve overall user experience and functionality.
