Ayaneo Unveils Modular Handheld PC with Competitive Pricing
Ayaneo, known for its visually striking handheld PCs, has announced its latest offering, the Ayaneo 3. Starting at $900, this new model presents a more affordable option compared to the company’s previous releases while maintaining a robust feature set.
The Ayaneo 3 boasts two USB4 ports, OcuLink connectivity, RGB-ringed Hall effect joysticks, and customizable screens. However, the standout feature is its modular design, allowing users to adjust joystick and button layouts according to their ergonomic preferences.
Marketed as “the world’s first modular handheld,” the Ayaneo 3 comes with a basic module for joystick and button orientation changes. For enthusiasts seeking further customization, an optional “Magic Module” kit is available for $139, offering six additional modules including various analog stick and button configurations.
The base model is equipped with a Ryzen 8840U processor, 16GB LPDDR5X RAM, and 512GB storage. Customers can choose between OLED and IPS screens, with the OLED option featuring 1080p resolution, 144Hz refresh rate, HDR support, and 800 nits brightness. The IPS alternative offers a 120Hz refresh rate with variable refresh rate capability.
Additional features include dual USB4 ports, an Oculink port for external GPUs, and support for M.2 2280 SSDs. The device also incorporates a hardware mode switch for controller and virtual-mouse-and-keyboard modes, as well as new trigger locks for the Hall effect trigger.
While the Ayaneo 3 presents an attractive package, potential buyers should note that the modules electronically latch into the frame and require a software button to eject. Additionally, the 49-watt-hour battery capacity may limit extended use.
As a crowdfunded product, consumers should be aware of the mixed track record in delivery and quality associated with such campaigns. The Ayaneo 3 is expected to ship by the end of April and will be available through Indiegogo.
