Apple Unveils Updated MacBook Pro with M4 Chips at Macweek
Apple concluded its annual Macweek event by introducing an updated MacBook Pro lineup, featuring the highly anticipated M4 chips. The new MacBook Pro and Mac Mini are the first Mac devices to incorporate this latest processor technology, aligning them with other Apple products.
The refreshed MacBook Pro will be available in 14-inch and 16-inch models, both sporting Liquid Retina XDR displays capable of reaching 1,000 nits of peak brightness. Customers can choose from M4, M4 Pro, and M4 Max chip configurations, with the latter being offered as an upgradeable option.
Notable improvements include a 12-megapixel webcam and Thunderbolt 5 ports on M4 Pro and Max models. Apple claims the new MacBook Pro boasts an impressive 24-hour battery life, setting a new standard for the MacBook line.
Alongside the hardware updates, Apple introduced macOS Sequoia 15.1, bringing new features such as enhanced writing tools, image cleanup capabilities, and article summaries. A redesigned Siri typing input is also part of this update. The upcoming macOS 15.2 release promises additional features, including Genmoji, Image Playground, Visual Intelligence, Image Wand, and ChatGPT integration.
In terms of memory, both MacBook Pro models now start with 16GB of base memory. This upgrade extends to the MacBook Air M2 and M3 models as well, although no other changes were announced for the Air lineup. The MacBook Air M2 version maintains its $999 base price.
Pricing for the new MacBook Pro starts at $1,599 for the 14-inch M4 model, with the M4 Pro version beginning at $1,999. The 16-inch MacBook Pro starts at $2,499. Preorders will be available starting Wednesday, with shipping commencing on November 8, coinciding with the release of new iMac and Mac Mini models.
