Apple’s 2024 iPad Mini: Powerful A17 Pro Chip, Expanded Storage, and Pro Pencil Support

Apple Unveils 2024 iPad Mini with Modest Upgrades

Apple has introduced its latest iteration of the iPad Mini, focusing on internal improvements rather than a major redesign. The 2024 model builds upon the 2021 version, which was the first to remove the home button in favor of smaller bezels.

The new iPad Mini boasts increased storage options, support for the Apple Pencil Pro, and a more powerful A17 Pro chip. This advanced processor not only enhances performance but also paves the way for compatibility with upcoming Apple Intelligence features.

Design-wise, the 2024 iPad Mini closely resembles its predecessor, retaining modest bezels and stereo speakers. The device still features a portrait-oriented camera and relies on Touch ID rather than Face ID for security. The 8.3-inch LCD maintains a 60Hz refresh rate, similar to the previous model. Notably, Apple appears to have addressed the “jelly-scrolling” issue that affected some users of the 2021 version.

Performance upgrades are significant, with the A17 Pro chip offering a 30% faster CPU and a 25% faster GPU compared to the A15. The device now supports the Apple Pencil Pro, which introduces advanced features such as pressure sensitivity and haptic feedback. Storage options have been expanded, starting at 128GB with a 512GB option available. Connectivity has also been improved with Bluetooth 5.3 and Wi-Fi 6E support.

The iPad Mini continues to excel as a device for reading, messaging, and casual gaming. While not intended as a laptop replacement, it serves well as a secondary device and is particularly suitable for sketching and note-taking with the Apple Pencil Pro. However, its smaller screen size may be less ideal for extended video viewing.

Battery life tests indicate around eight hours of mixed-use, slightly below Apple’s promised 10 hours. Intensive tasks such as gaming can further reduce this figure.

In conclusion, the 2024 iPad Mini represents a solid update, particularly for users with older models predating the home button removal. While not a revolutionary upgrade, it reinforces the iPad Mini’s position as a strong contender in the compact, portable tablet market.
