Analogue 3D Console Release Delayed, Faces Competition from ModRetro
The highly anticipated Analogue 3D console, a modern reimagining of the Nintendo 64, has encountered another delay in its release schedule. Initially slated for a 2024 launch, then pushed to Q1 2025, the console is now expected to ship by July 2025. Priced at $249.99, the Analogue 3D boasts impressive features including 4K output and Bluetooth controller support.
Announced at the beginning of last year, the Analogue 3D continues the company’s tradition of modernizing classic gaming systems. Previous releases have included updated versions of the NES, SNES, Sega Genesis, and Game Boy. The new console utilizes FPGA technology to ensure 100 percent compatibility with N64 cartridges from any region.
As Analogue faces delays, competition in the retro gaming market is heating up. ModRetro, a company known for its Game Boy products, has teased its own N64 retro console. Palmer Luckey, CEO of ModRetro, hinted that potential customers might reconsider their Analogue 3D pre-orders in favor of ModRetro’s upcoming release. This teaser follows the recent launch of ModRetro’s first product, the Chromatic.
In response to the delay and emerging competition, Analogue has reassured its customers. The company emphasizes its commitment to a 100 percent refund policy for canceled pre-orders and assures that they are working diligently to fulfill orders as soon as possible. Customers with existing pre-orders do not need to take any action unless they wish to cancel. Analog plans to email buyers a week before shipping to confirm and update shipping addresses.
As the retro gaming console market continues to evolve, consumers eagerly await the release of these modern takes on classic systems. The competition between Analogue and ModRetro may ultimately benefit gamers, potentially leading to more options and innovations in the space.
