American Airlines Tests New Boarding Technology at Three U.S. Airports
American Airlines has launched a trial of new boarding technology at three U.S. airports to streamline the boarding process and prevent passengers from boarding out of turn. The innovative system is currently being tested at Albuquerque International Sunport, Tucson International Airport, and Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport.
The technology is designed to alert gate agents with an audible sound if a passenger attempts to board before their designated group is called. This measure aims to ensure that priority boarding benefits are maintained for eligible passengers and provides airline staff with greater visibility into the boarding progress.
Under the new protocol, gate agents will politely inform passengers if they attempt to board prematurely and ask them to rejoin the line until their group is called. However, the system allows for flexibility, as agents can override the alert for exceptions, such as companions of higher-status travelers.
American Airlines reports satisfaction with the results of the trial thus far. The airline believes this technology will enhance the boarding experience for all passengers by maintaining order and efficiency in the boarding process.
As the trial continues, American Airlines will evaluate the effectiveness of the new system and consider potential implementation at other airports across its network.
