AMD Unveils Radeon RX 9070 and 9070 XT Graphics Cards
AMD has announced its latest high-performance graphics cards, the Radeon RX 9070 and 9070 XT, set to launch on March 6th. The new GPUs are positioned to compete directly with Nvidia’s RTX 50-series, offering competitive pricing and enhanced performance.
The company claims significant improvements over previous models, with the 9070 XT boasting a 51% performance increase over the RX 6900 XT and outperforming the RTX 3090 by 26% at 4K resolution. AMD also states that the 9070 XT’s performance rivals that of the 7900 XTX, while the standard 9070 offers 21% better performance than the RX 7900 GRE at 4K.
Both cards feature 16GB of GDDR6 memory and support DisplayPort 2.1a, HDMI 2.1b, and PCIe 5.0. They utilize standard 8-pin PCIe power connectors, marking a departure from more complex power solutions. The GPUs introduce AMD’s RDNA 4 architecture, promising improvements in both rasterization and ray tracing capabilities.
AMD is also launching FSR 4, a new AI upscaling algorithm, alongside these cards. The technology’s benefits were demonstrated in “Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2,” with plans for 30 FSR 4-compatible games at launch, expanding to 75 by year-end. The new cards will also be compatible with existing FSR 3.1 games.
Media and streaming enhancements include an upgraded media engine for higher-quality gameplay recording and an improved Fluid Motion Frames technology (AFMF 2.1) to reduce ghosting and smearing.
AMD aims to ensure strong availability and competitive pricing for the new cards, addressing potential supply concerns. The company also hinted at future RX 9060 series cards to expand its product line.
With these releases, AMD positions itself as a strong competitor in the high-performance GPU market, focusing on performance, availability, and pricing to capture market share from its rivals.
