Pentagon Embraces AI to Enhance Military Efficiency
The U.S. Department of Defense is expressing enthusiasm over recent advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) that are significantly improving military operational efficiency. In a recent interview with TechCrunch, Radha Plumb, the Pentagon’s chief digital and AI officer, shed light on how AI is accelerating military processes.
Central to this development is the concept of the “kill chain,” a systematic approach to targeting and engaging adversaries, as detailed in a Mitchell Institute white paper. Despite these technological advancements, the Pentagon maintains that human oversight remains paramount in lethal decision-making processes. Plumb stressed that fully autonomous weaponry is not currently in use, and ethical considerations ensure human involvement in the employment of force.
