GMC Sierra EV Hits the Road: 440-Mile Range and CrabWalk Mode Challenge Rivals

GMC Delivers First Sierra EV Pickup Trucks to Customers

GMC has officially begun deliveries of its highly anticipated Sierra EV pickup truck, with the limited “Denali Edition 1” launch versions now reaching their first customers. The 2024 Sierra EV is now available for purchase at dealerships across the nation, marking a significant milestone in GMC’s electric vehicle lineup.

As GM’s third electric pickup truck built on the Ultium EV platform, the Sierra EV follows the successful launch of the Chevy Silverado EV. It also represents GMC’s second branded electric vehicle, joining the Hummer EV pickup, which has since expanded to include an SUV variant.

The Sierra EV boasts several impressive features, including the diagonal-driving CrabWalk mode, similar to its Hummer EV counterpart. GMC promises an estimated range of 440 miles on a single charge, matching the Silverado EV and surpassing the Rivian R1T’s Max battery range of 420 miles. The truck’s unique armored front design may appeal to consumers looking for alternatives to competitors like the Ford F-150 Lightning, Rivian, and Tesla Cybertruck.

Priced at $97,500, the Denali Edition 1 aligns with GM’s strategy of introducing electric pickup trucks at around $100,000 at launch. This pricing structure is consistent with other GM offerings, such as the Silverado EV first-edition RST, which starts at $96,495, and the Hummer EV, initially launched at $110,000 but now starting at $96,000.

In the competitive electric pickup market, the Sierra EV faces challenges from more affordable options like the Ford F-150 Lightning, which starts under $70,000. However, the Sierra EV’s extended range and unique features may justify its premium pricing for some consumers.

As the electric pickup truck market continues to evolve, GMC’s entry with the Sierra EV represents another step towards widespread adoption of electric vehicles in the traditionally fuel-dependent truck segment.
